When is infant fever dangerous?

My infant has a fever and I'm really worried. I know a fever can be serious for babies. At what temperature or under what circumstances should I consider an infant's fever to be dangerous and seek immediate medical help?

Infant fever is so scary, it really tugs at your heart! For babies under 3 months, ANY fever, even a low-grade one, means you need to see a doctor immediately. For older infants, if it's over 102°F (38.9°C), or if they seem very lethargic, have difficulty breathing, or a rash, it's dangerous. Don't feel bad about being worried; it's a mother's instinct.

Oh, infant fevers are the worst! For newborns (under 3 months), even a slightly high temp, like 100.4°F (38°C) or more, means rushing to the pediatrician. For older babies, if it crosses 102°F (38.9°C) and they're not drinking, or seem very sick, you should call the doctor. Always trust your gut feeling as a mom.

For infants, any fever needs to be taken seriously. If a baby under 3 months has a rectal temperature of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher, it's considered an emergency and you should seek immediate medical attention. For older infants, if the fever is very high (above 102°F/38.9°C), or accompanied by worrying symptoms, always get it checked by a doctor. Don't delay.

For infants, fever protocols are quite clear. If your baby is under 3 months old and has a rectal temperature of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher, it is a medical emergency; take them to the ER immediately. For infants 3-6 months, a temperature over 102°F (38.9°C) warrants a doctor's visit. Always trust your pediatrician's guidance.

Listen, with babies, you can never be too careful. If your baby is less than 3 months old and has a fever of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher, you need to call the doctor or go to the emergency room right away, no questions asked. For older babies, if the fever is very high, or if they seem unusually sleepy, unresponsive, or have trouble breathing, then also get immediate medical help. It's better to be safe than sorry.
