When is hospice called in for cancer patients?

I was reading about this recently. Hospice care is usually introduced when active curative treatment is no longer beneficial, and the patient has a prognosis of six months or less to live. It shifts the focus to managing pain and symptoms and providing emotional and spiritual support for the patient and family. It's a tough but important decision.

Hospice care comes into play when the doctors and family feel that curative treatments are no longer effective and the focus needs to shift to comfort and quality of life. It’s for when a patient is in the advanced stages of cancer, typically with a life expectancy of about six months or less. It’s a way to ensure they are cared for with dignity and are free from pain during a very difficult time. It's a decision made with much thought and care.
