When do newborns start to sleep more at night?

With a 1-month-old, my nights are a series of short naps and frequent wake-ups. My mother-in-law says her children started sleeping more at night quite early. When can I expect my newborn to start sleeping for longer periods at night?

Most newborns start sleeping longer stretches at night, around 4-6 hours, from about 2 to 4 months of age. It's a gradual change. Hang in there.

I remember those days! My first one started sleeping a good 5-6 hours by 3.5 months, but my second took almost 5 months. It's not a race, truly. Just keep a consistent bedtime routine, and try to get some rest yourself during the day.

Generally, from around 2 to 4 months, newborns might start sleeping longer at night, often 4-6 hours. But it's important to remember that every baby is different and reaches milestones at their own pace. Be gentle with yourself and your baby, and avoid comparisons.

Typically, between 2 to 4 months is when they start sleeping longer. Don't fall for expensive sleep aids, a dark room and consistent routine work best. If there are serious concerns, a doctor visit is essential, but try to manage with basic steps first to save on unnecessary costs.

My pediatrician explained that around 3-4 months, most healthy, full-term babies develop the ability to sleep for longer stretches, usually 5-6 hours, because their stomachs can hold more milk and their circadian rhythm starts maturing. It's a key developmental stage for them.

Most babies start giving you longer sleep stretches, say 4-6 hours, around 2-4 months. It's a big relief for parents! Remember, even with broken sleep, try to fit in some light walking or stretching during the day if your doctor allows, it helps with energy levels.

Generally, around 2-4 months is when a newborn's sleep patterns start to consolidate, meaning longer stretches at night, typically 4-6 hours. It's not an exact science though, every baby is different. Just keep focusing on consistent feeding and a good bedtime routine.
