When did the yellow fever epidemic take place?

I was reading an old history book, and it mentioned a terrible yellow fever epidemic. I'm interested in learning about historical disease outbreaks, specifically when this yellow fever epidemic occurred.

Yellow fever epidemics were a serious global health crisis centuries ago, especially before modern medicine. For today's global traveler, if visiting endemic regions, the vaccine is the only practical remedy. Home remedies won't protect you from a virus like this, so always take medical advice for travel.

Yellow Fever epidemics mostly occurred centuries ago, particularly affecting regions in Africa and the Americas. For us now, the main thing is if you're traveling to those specific areas, get the mandatory Yellow Fever vaccine well in advance. Check your travel clinic for requirements.

Good question! Thankfully, we don't really have Yellow Fever epidemics in India. I had to get the vaccine recently because I traveled to Africa for work. It's typically for travellers going to endemic regions in Africa and South America. So, historical epidemics were a different scenario.

My research indicates that major Yellow Fever epidemics plagued parts of North America, South America, and Africa primarily from the 17th to the late 19th centuries. The disease significantly impacted public health and global trade routes during those periods, before the vaccine was developed.
