When did diabetes begin?

I hear about diabetes so much nowadays, even young people are getting it. My grandmother used to say it was rare in her time. When did the disease of diabetes itself first appear or get recognized?

Oh, diabetes is ancient, I think! Like, way before all our delicious modern food, haha. Makes you wonder what people ate back then to get it. Probably not biryani!

Diabetes has been recognized for thousands of years, even in ancient Indian texts like Ayurveda. They described a condition similar to it. It shows the importance of lifestyle and natural balance, which we also focus on in yoga and pranayama.

Interestingly, diabetes has been known for thousands of years, recorded even in ancient Egypt and India. So it's not a recent phenomenon, just its prevalence and our understanding has changed. It makes you think about how long people have been dealing with health issues and the cost of managing them. Planning financially for health is always wise.

From what my doctor explained, diabetes isn't a new disease; it's actually been around for centuries, even thousands of years. It was just understood differently. The rise in cases recently is linked to modern lifestyles, but the condition itself has a long history. That's why managing food and sugar is key.

It's a common misconception that diabetes is a new age disease, but it's actually ancient. It's good to understand the history, it helps put things in perspective. Don't let health info overwhelm you, just focus on understanding the facts.

Even in our old scriptures and stories, there are mentions of 'madhumeh', which is what we call diabetes now. So, it's not a new thing, it has been with us for a very long time. My grandmother used to say the body's balance was disturbed. Good healthy food and simple living were always important.

I totally get why you'd ask this! It feels like such a modern problem, but actually, diabetes has been documented since ancient times, like thousands of years ago in Egyptian and Indian texts. It just wasn't called 'diabetes' in the same way. It's fascinating how long some conditions have been with humanity.
