When did cancer become a thing?

As an oncologist, I'm always interested in the history of medicine. I was recently reading about ancient diseases. When did cancer, as a recognized medical condition, truly become 'a thing' in historical records?

Honestly, the earliest mention of cancer I've heard is from ancient Egypt and Greek texts. So it's been around forever, unfortunately. No amount of good food or delicious cravings can make it disappear, haan? Always gotta stay vigilant about health.

Namaste. Cancer, as a disease, has been around for a very long time, even ancient civilizations mentioned it. It is not a new 'thing'. While our elders had some beliefs, for any serious health concern like this, we must always trust and consult modern medicine doctors for diagnosis and treatment. That is the correct way.

Beti, this illness called cancer, it has been with people for a very, very long time. It is not something new that came just now. My dadi used to talk about such illnesses even in her time. It is sad, but we must always pray and go to the doctor quickly if something feels wrong.

Cancer isn't a modern disease; there's archaeological evidence of it from ancient times. What's new is our understanding, diagnostic tools, and treatments. So, it's always been 'a thing,' but now we're better equipped to fight it. My experience taught me early detection and consistent treatment make a huge difference.

From what I've read and understood through my own experiences, cancer isn't something that 'became a thing' recently. It's a very old disease. I can't give medical advice, but personally, it just reinforces the importance of regular check-ups and being aware of my family's health history.

Oh, really? I always thought it was more of a modern disease because we hear so much about it now. So it's been around for centuries? That's quite surprising. Does that mean old remedies or ancient texts ever mention treatments for it?

Cancer isn't a recent development. It's been documented for thousands of years, so it's always been 'a thing'. While a healthy lifestyle, good diet, and regular exercise can reduce risks for some types, it's not a guarantee. Regular check-ups and being aware of your body are critical.
