When can you not sleep on your back while pregnant?

I'm pregnant and sleeping has become a bit tricky. Someone told me it's not good to sleep on your back after a certain point. When exactly during pregnancy should I stop sleeping on my back? I don't want to harm the baby.

The general recommendation is to avoid sleeping flat on your back after the first trimester, usually from about 20 weeks into your pregnancy. The growing uterus can compress the inferior vena cava, reducing blood flow. Sleeping on your side, particularly the left side, is preferred as it optimizes circulation for both you and the baby.

Oh, I just went through this! My doctor told me around 20 weeks to completely stop sleeping flat on my back. I started feeling dizzy if I did anyway. The baby gets big and presses on a main blood vessel. So, second trimester onwards, it's side sleeping all the way. A good pregnancy pillow helps a lot!

Most modern pregnancy apps and health trackers will remind you about this: avoid sleeping on your back from the second trimester, typically after 20 weeks. The science behind it is pretty clear – the uterus can compress the vena cava. So, switch to side sleeping, preferably left, to maintain optimal circulation. There are even special pillows that help keep you on your side.

Just like you adjust your workouts and diet in pregnancy, sleep position also needs adjustment. Once you hit the second trimester, around 20 weeks, it's a no-go for sleeping flat on your back. The growing uterus can put pressure on important blood vessels. Side sleeping is the way to go to keep that blood flow optimized for both of you. Stay active and sleep smart!

This is a really important point for pregnancy safety. Generally, it's advised to avoid sleeping flat on your back from the second trimester, usually starting around 20 weeks. The reason is that the expanding uterus can put pressure on a major blood vessel, which can affect blood flow. Side sleeping, particularly on your left, is often recommended. Always consult your gynecologist for specific guidance, especially if you have any underlying health conditions.

I totally get how confusing all the advice can be during pregnancy, especially for sleep! It's generally advised to avoid sleeping flat on your back from the second trimester, roughly around 20-24 weeks. The weight of the uterus can put pressure on a major blood vessel. Don't stress too much if you occasionally roll onto your back, just shift to your side when you notice. A pillow behind you can help.

Cut off sleeping on your back by your second trimester, around 20 weeks. It's not safe as the baby grows and can restrict blood flow. Switch to your side, especially the left. Get a good body pillow; it's a game-changer for comfort and safety.
