What virus causes diarrhea and vomiting?

My child has been having severe diarrhea and vomiting for the last two days. The doctor said it might be a viral infection. What commonly causes these symptoms, specifically a virus?

Honestly, last month I had this really bad stomach bug, like non-stop vomiting and loo visits. Doc said it was probably some viral gastroenteritis, probably from outside food. Had to be careful for a few days.

See, there are many viruses like Rotavirus or Norovirus that can cause this. But if you have high BP like me, any such infection can be more serious. Always good to check with your doctor, especially if it's severe or lasts long. Hydration is key.

Oh, I didn't know viruses cause this too, I thought it was always food poisoning. Is it like a common cold, where there are many different types of viruses? What exactly is a rotavirus?

It can be anything from rotavirus to norovirus, haan. Sometimes docs will do stool tests but those can be expensive. For me, usually ORS and light food helps. If it's really bad, then a doctor visit is a must, no compromise there.

Don't just believe everything on the internet, yar. Viruses like rotavirus or norovirus are common culprits, but you shouldn't self-diagnose. Always consult a proper doctor to get it confirmed and get the right advice. Random remedies can sometimes make things worse.
