What supplements are hard on the liver?

My father takes a lot of different supplements for his general well-being. We just want to make sure he's not taking anything that could be harmful. Which supplements are typically known to be hard on the liver?

Honestly, even 'natural' stuff can be tricky. I once took some weight loss pills a friend suggested, and my stomach felt so weird. My doc later said some of those can put a lot of strain on your liver if not taken properly or if you have underlying issues. Always best to check with a doctor first, even for supplements.

Oh god, this is my biggest fear! I'm always reading about how some supplements can actually do more harm than good, especially for the liver. I get so paranoid. I think high doses of Vitamin A, iron supplements if you don't need them, and certain herbal blends like kava are often mentioned as being potentially liver-toxic. Please be careful and discuss with a doctor before starting anything new.

It's a really important question because many people assume supplements are harmless. While some are fine, certain ones, especially in high doses or combinations, can indeed stress the liver. Things like anabolic steroids, certain weight loss supplements, and even excessive intake of some vitamins (like Vitamin A) can be problematic. A consultation with a medical professional is truly the safest approach.

My son had some liver issues when he was younger, so I'm very careful about this. Our pediatrician strictly advised against any unregulated herbal supplements, especially for weight gain or muscle building. He said many of those don't list all ingredients and can be really tough on a developing liver. For kids or even adults, better to eat healthy and get nutrients from food first.

Yeah, really important to know this. Overdoing Vitamin A and iron without a deficiency can definitely cause problems. Pls get your blood tests done before taking anything new.

Yaar, honestly, jo bhi supplement without proper medical advice lete hain, woh risky ho sakta hai. Especially those gym वाले प्रोटीन और वेट लॉस वाले. My cousin had issues with some protein powder, actually, his liver enzymes went up. So better to always consult a doc, even if it's just 'multivitamins'.

From what I've tracked on my health apps and read in fitness forums, many unregulated fat burners and high-dose performance enhancers can be pretty harsh on the liver. Also, if you already have any liver condition, even common supplements might need a check. Your doctor can recommend what's safe based on your body.

I totally get why you're asking this! It's so confusing with all the different supplements out there. I heard that even some 'detox' supplements can be bad for your liver because they contain unregulated ingredients. It's like, you want to be healthy, but then you worry about side effects. Always good to ask a doctor or a proper dietician.
