What side are you supposed to sleep on?

My sleep quality isn't great, and I often wake up with aches. My mother always told me to sleep on my left side, but I don't know if that's actually true. What side are you actually supposed to sleep on for good rest?

From a fitness perspective, left side sleeping actually helps a lot with gut health and digestion after a heavy protein dinner. I usually couple that with a small pillow between my knees to keep my spine aligned after heavy leg days. Try it out, works wonders.

Honestly, don't stress too much about this. Just sleep on whatever side feels comfortable enough to get you some good rest tonight, left side is usually said to be better for digestion but chill, body moves on its own anyway.

While general wellness articles recommend the left side for optimal lymphatic drainage and digestion, it really depends on your medical history. If you have specific cardiac or sleep apnea issues, it is best to ask your doctor what they prefer for your case.

I was just reading up on this yesterday! Most health blogs say sleeping on your left side is the best because of how our stomach is shaped, apparently it prevents acid from creeping up. But honestly, I always wake up on my right anyway, so hard to control once you are asleep.

I actually had no idea that sleeping side even mattered until my roommate told me about it. Is it really that important for digestion? I always sleep on my back because sleeping on the side makes my neck hurt a bit.

Normally we suggest sleeping on your left side, especially if you face acidity or reflux issues quite often. But if you have any shoulder pain or breathing issues, sometimes sleeping on your back is better. Just don't force a position if it is waking you up in pain.
