What should your tsh level be with no thyroid?

My sister just had her thyroid removed because of some complications, and now she's on medication. She's worried about her TSH levels. If someone has no thyroid, what should their TSH level ideally be?

My son had his thyroid removed and his doctor always aims to keep his TSH between 0.5 and 2.0 mU/L. We make sure he takes his tablet on an empty stomach every single morning. It requires a lot of care, but he is doing very well now.

I was reading about this because my aunt is undergoing thyroid removal next month. It seems like the TSH target depends heavily on why the thyroid was removed in the first place. It is fascinating how doctors fine-tune the synthetic hormone doses to match natural levels.

With the thyroid gone, the body relies entirely on external hormone tablets, usually targeting a TSH of 0.5 to 2.0. Along with your regular medication, practicing gentle breathing like Ujjayi pranayama can help keep your mind calm and support your overall well-being.

My doctor explained that when you have no thyroid, the TSH target is customized. For replacement therapy, the standard target is 0.5 to 2.0 mU/L, but for suppression therapy after cancer, they might keep it below 0.1 mU/L. It is crucial to have your endocrinologist decide your specific range.

Typically, the target TSH range after thyroidectomy is between 0.5 to 2.0 mU/L, but if there was cancer, they keep it much lower. Just set a calendar reminder for your blood tests every 6-8 weeks and let your endocrinologist adjust the thyroxine dosage. Don't skip tests.

I completely understand how terrifying it is to manage health after thyroid surgery. Usually, doctors keep the target TSH quite low, often between 0.1 to 2.0 depending on the reason for removal. Please don't stress, once your medication dose is set, you will feel much better.

I totally get it, managing hormonal levels without a thyroid gland can feel like a roller coaster. Generally, a range of 0.5 to 2.0 mU/L is what doctors look for, but it is highly specific to your history. We are all here to support you through this.
