What's the difference between heartburn and heart attack?

Sometimes I get a burning sensation in my chest after eating, and I worry if it could be serious. My grandmother always said it's just 'heartburn', but then I also hear about 'heart attacks' which sound much worse. How do I know the difference between heartburn and a heart attack?

This is a very important question, people confuse these easily. Heartburn is a burning sensation in your chest, usually after eating, and it's because of stomach acid. A heart attack is when blood flow to your heart is blocked, and the pain is much more severe, often spreading to your arm or jaw. If there's any doubt or severe pain, just go to the hospital. Better safe than sorry.

This is a critical distinction! Heartburn is a burning sensation caused by acid reflux, located in your esophagus. A heart attack is due to a blocked artery supplying blood to your heart, with pain often more crushing and radiating. My health tracker monitors my heart rate, but for actual symptoms, especially chest pain, it's crucial to seek medical help immediately. Don't rely on apps for diagnosis in such serious cases.

Heartburn is often a result of diet choices, like eating spicy or rich food that causes acid reflux, giving a burning sensation in the chest. A heart attack, however, is a serious medical emergency where blood flow to the heart is blocked, leading to severe chest pain, shortness of breath, and often pain in the arm/jaw. While a vegetarian diet can support heart health, any severe chest pain should be immediately checked by a doctor, not dismissed as just heartburn.

I've had both, so I can tell you. Heartburn is a burning sensation, comes and goes, usually related to what you ate. An antacid helps. A heart attack? That's a crushing, squeezing pain in your chest, can go to your arm, jaw, back. You feel breathless, sweaty. If it feels like an elephant sitting on your chest, don't think, just go to the emergency. Any doubt, get it checked, seriously.

This is SO important to know. I once had severe chest pain and kept taking antacids for what I thought was heartburn. Turns out, it was a mini heart attack! Heartburn is typically a burning sensation from acid reflux. A heart attack is more of a crushing or squeezing pain, often with shortness of breath, dizziness, and pain radiating to other areas. If there's *any* suspicion of heart attack, please call an ambulance immediately. Don't wait like I did.

Oh, this is scary. So if it's just burning, it's heartburn, but if it's like, heavy and crushing, it's a heart attack? And the pain can go to your arm? What if it's both? Should I just go to the doctor for any chest pain to be safe?
