What pain medication can a pregnant woman take?

I'm in my second trimester, and sometimes I get these nagging body aches. I'm worried about taking anything that might harm the baby. What pain medication is generally considered safe for pregnant women?

This is extremely important. During my pregnancy, I had complications, and my doctor was very strict about what medications I could take. Generally, only Acetaminophen (Paracetamol) is considered safe, and even that needs to be approved by your gynaecologist. Never take anything else like NSAIDs or other strong pain relievers without explicit medical advice. It's not worth the risk for the baby.

As someone who has been through pregnancy twice, I can tell you that the safest go-to for pain relief is usually Acetaminophen (Paracetamol), but always after consulting your gynaecologist first. They might tell you the safe dosage and frequency. Avoid NSAIDs like ibuprofen completely unless specifically told otherwise by your doctor, especially in the later stages of pregnancy. Hot/cold compresses can also help with localized pain.

Please, if you are pregnant, do NOT self-medicate for pain. I once had a bad headache and took an OTC painkiller that wasn't approved for pregnancy, and my doctor was very upset. It's critical to talk to your gynaecologist for even the smallest ache. Only they can tell you what is truly safe for you and the baby. Your baby's health depends on it.

When I was pregnant, the doctor was very clear: only paracetamol for pain, and only if absolutely necessary. And even then, only the lowest dose. Nothing else was allowed. It was hard, but for the baby's safety, it's very important to follow the doctor's exact instructions. Don't take any chances.
