What mental health issues disqualify you from the military?

My cousin is keen on joining the military, but he's been through some mental health challenges in the past. We want to know what mental health issues would prevent someone from being able to join.

Hello! The military has very stringent mental health requirements for obvious reasons. Conditions like severe depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, severe anxiety disorders, or PTSD are usually disqualifying, especially if they've required significant treatment or hospitalization. They need stable individuals who can handle extreme stress and make critical decisions.

It's completely understandable to wonder about this, especially with the high-stress environment of the military. If there's a history of serious mental health issues like psychosis, severe mood disorders, or chronic anxiety that impacts daily functioning, it's very likely to disqualify you. They need absolute mental resilience.

Don't trust any random forums for this. Military regulations are very specific. Generally, conditions like severe depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, or active PTSD are major disqualifiers. Anything that could compromise your mental stability in a high-pressure combat situation. Always verify with official military sources or a qualified doctor, not just internet advice.

For something like joining the military, you can't take chances. While for minor stress, maybe some meditation or herbal teas help, for proper enlistment, any history of serious mental health issues like severe depression, clinical anxiety, or conditions like bipolar disorder or schizophrenia will almost certainly be disqualifying. You must see a doctor for proper assessment and guidance on this, home tips won't cut it here.

My nephew wanted to join the army, but he had a history of anxiety. They are very particular. If you have been diagnosed with anything significant like severe depression, schizophrenia, or PTSD, especially if it required long-term treatment or hospitalization, it will likely disqualify you. It's tough, but they need people who are mentally very robust.
