First, move the person to a cool shade and use normal cold tap water to sponge them. Don't run to private emergency rooms immediately if basic cooling works, as those ICU visits are extremely costly.

My son had a mild heat stroke during his school sports day. I immediately put wet cotton towels on his forehead and underarms, and gave him ORS water slowly once he was fully awake.

In our times, we used to drink a lot of aam panna and barley water during summers to prevent this. If someone gets too hot, just keep them in a breezy room and apply onion juice on their feet soles.

Heat stroke is actually a medical emergency if their body temperature is very high. While you cool them down with fans and wet cloths, please call a doctor or get them to a hospital immediately.

Make sure you use sugar-free electrolyte powder or simple salted lemon water for hydration if the patient has high blood sugar. Avoid sweet glucose drinks during heat recovery.

Keep the person hydrated with buttermilk or coconut water with a pinch of salt. But if they are feeling dizzy or vomiting, do not rely on home remedies, take them to the clinic.

I have tried everything from wet sheets to barley water for summer heat. Honestly, the most effective step is just constant fan cooling and wiping the body down with normal cool water.

If you train outdoors, always carry electrolyte water to prevent this. If hit by heat stroke, stop all workouts immediately and rest in an AC room for at least 2-3 days.

I didn't know heat stroke could be so serious. Is it safe to give them ice cold water to drink immediately, or does that cause a shock to the system?

Heat stroke can cause internal organ damage if the body temperature doesn't go down fast. Don't sit at home waiting, get them checked by a doctor immediately.
