What is the genetic basis of cancer?

My aunt was recently diagnosed with cancer, and the doctors mentioned it could be hereditary. I'm worried about my own family history. Could someone explain what is the genetic basis of cancer? I want to understand if it runs in families.

This question makes me a bit anxious because cancer runs in my family. Does it mean if there's a genetic basis, it's unavoidable? Has anyone else felt this way?

Don't worry too much, while genetics can increase risk, it's not the only factor. Cancer often involves mutations in genes that control cell growth, and these can be inherited or happen due to lifestyle. It's good to be aware, but also focus on a healthy lifestyle, okay?

My dear, the body is a complex temple. While some predispositions may be written in our genetic code, our choices and inner peace also play a huge part. Maintain good habits, pray, and believe in the power of well-being. Focus on what you can control, and don't let fear consume you.

Basically, cancer happens when there are mutations in your DNA that make cells grow out of control. Some of these mutations you can inherit from your parents (like BRCA genes for breast cancer), and some happen randomly or due to environment. So yeah, genetics is a key piece of the puzzle.
