What is the difference between diabetic shoes and regular shoes?

My husband has diabetes, and his feet often feel uncomfortable. We saw ads for special diabetic shoes. What is the actual difference between diabetic shoes and regular shoes, are they worth buying?

Beta, regular shoes can pinch or cause small cuts which take a long time to heal if sugar is high. Diabetic shoes have extra soft cushioning inside and no rough seams at all to protect the feet. Along with proper shoes, my grandmother always said to wash feet in warm water and apply light mustard oil at night to keep the skin soft.

Honestly, regular shoes are just meant to look cool while diabetic shoes actually care about your feet surviving the day. My uncle got them and they look super chunky, but he says it feels like walking on pillows. I am so tired today I could probably sleep inside one of those soft diabetic shoes myself, no joke.

Regular shoes are designed for fashion and general support, but diabetic shoes have a wider toe box and seamless interiors to avoid blisters. Since diabetic neuropathy can reduce sensation in the feet, small injuries can go unnoticed. I would highly suggest consulting your podiatrist or diabetologist before buying, as they can recommend the exact fit you need.

Diabetic shoes help with blood circulation and have special insoles to prevent ulcers, which regular shoes don't care about. Just like managing my high BP, controlling sugar requires these small lifestyle adjustments alongside regular doctor checkups. Do keep an eye on your sugar levels and feet health weekly, it makes a huge difference.

It is all about protecting the body that God has gifted us, so keeping our feet safe is very important. Diabetic shoes are specially designed to prevent any pressure points or friction that regular shoes might cause. Stay positive, keep taking your walks, and just wear the right footwear to keep your steps light and happy.
