What is the difference between commercial and private health insurance?

My family is looking into getting health insurance, and there are so many options. Can someone explain the difference between commercial and private health insurance plans?

At my age, dealing with insurance is more painful than the backache. Commercial health insurance is generally run by large private corporations for profit, while private insurance is a broad term that just means any plan not funded by the government. Whichever you buy, just make sure they don't reject your claims for silly reasons!

Private insurance is any plan you buy yourself or through work, rather than getting government aid! Commercial insurance is a type of private insurance sold by big private companies to make a profit. Just compare the claim settlement ratios and you'll be good to go!

Don't let these financial terms confuse you. Private insurance simply means any non-government plan, and commercial insurance is just the group or individual policies sold by commercial companies. Let me know if you need help looking at specific policies, and always read the fine print before paying.

When I go to my regular corporate hospital, the TPA desk treats private and commercial policies almost the same way. Private insurance is the general category for non-govt plans, while commercial plans are specifically run by private businesses. Ask your hospital's billing department directly about which corporate tie-ups they have.

Commercial insurance refers to policies sold by private companies to individuals or groups to make a profit, which is essentially a subset of private insurance. Honestly, keeping your health in top shape with regular exercise and daily walks is the best way to avoid using either! But definitely keep a good policy ready just in case.
