What is swamp fever?

My neighbour's livestock got some weird disease, and they called it 'swamp fever'. I'm just curious what that actually means for animals and if it can spread to humans, like dengue or something.

Swamp fever is actually a term used for infectious diseases like malaria or leptospirosis that spread in wet areas. Please see a doctor immediately if you have high fever, as delaying treatment for mosquito-borne diseases can lead to severe complications.

It historically refers to malaria or other fevers from swampy regions. While recovering from such fevers, having light, home-cooked vegetarian food like thin khichdi and lots of warm liquids helps the liver heal safely.

If you suspect a tropical fever, go to a local government clinic for blood tests like CBC and malaria. They do these tests for free or at very minimal cost, saving you thousands compared to private labs.

Oh, reading about these regional fevers always makes me so worried about infections! Please make sure to use mosquito repellents and consult a general physician if you or anyone has a high temperature.

I got high fever after visiting a marshy area last year and everyone called it swamp fever. Turned out to be malaria, had to take a full week of tablets to get back on my feet.
