What is soil acidity?

My neighbour, who is a gardener, was complaining about 'soil acidity' affecting his plants. I'm not familiar with this term. Can someone explain what soil acidity is and how it impacts plant growth? Just trying to learn a bit of general knowledge.

It refers to how acidic the soil is, measured by pH. If you are growing kitchen herbs at home, adding a little wood ash or eggshell powder is a simple way to neutralize highly acidic soil.

Mitti ka amlapana (acidity) badhne se fasal achhi nahi hoti. Hum log mitti ko theek karne ke liye thoda chuna (lime) milate hain jisse mitti fir se upjau ho jati hai.

Simply put, it's the pH level of your garden soil. If the pH is below 6, it is acidic, and some plants won't grow well. Just get a cheap pH testing kit online to check it.

I face high soil acidity in my backyard garden every monsoon due to heavy rains washing away minerals. Adding agricultural lime is the most reliable way to balance it; do it a few weeks before planting.

I can understand feeling overwhelmed when your plants start dying and you don't know why. Understanding soil acidity is a great first step, so don't worry, you will get the hang of it.

Hey, don't stress too much if your potted plants are drooping because of soil acidity. Just mix in some compost or organic manure, and it will balance out naturally over time.

Just like keeping our body's pH balanced with a good diet, plants need the right soil pH to absorb nutrients properly. Organic compost works best to maintain that healthy balance naturally.

I recently started home gardening and realized my curry leaf plant loves slightly acidic soil, but others hate it. It's all about knowing what pH your specific plants need to thrive.
