What is sciatica pain?

My brother has been complaining of severe leg pain that goes all the way down his back. The doctor suspects it's sciatica. Can someone explain what sciatica pain is and what causes it? He's finding it hard to walk properly.

Sciatica pain is a sharp, shooting pain that radiates from your lower back down through your hips and leg. Along with physical therapy, keeping your body hydrated and eating a diet rich in B-vitamins can support nerve health. Avoid processed foods that cause inflammation.

Sciatica is basically your lower back's way of telling you that you've been sitting on the couch like a potato for too long! It's just a pinched nerve playing DJ with your leg pain. Don't worry, a few targeted stretches and less lazy sitting usually sorts it out.

Sciatica is caused by irritation of the sciatic nerve, often due to a herniated disc. Because thyroid issues can sometimes cause muscle and joint pains, I always recommend getting routine blood work done alongside your spine checkup. Keep following up with your doctor regularly.

I get this weird electric shock-like sensation running down my right thigh whenever I stand up fast. Is this how sciatica starts? I am really worried it might get worse and affect my daily office work.

My doctor explained that sciatica is a symptom of an underlying issue, like a bulging disc or bone spur compressing the L4-S1 nerve roots. He advised against complete bed rest, stating that gentle activity and core strengthening are far more effective for long-term recovery.

My dad has this and it looks so painful, he literally can't sit for long lectures or drives. It's basically a nerve getting squeezed in the back that sends shockwaves down the leg. Regular physiotherapy sessions helped him a lot.

In my sixty years, I have seen many friends suffer from sciatica. The key is patience; it doesn't heal overnight. Keep moving gently, don't lift heavy weights, and trust the recovery process. Your body will heal with time and proper care.

Sciatica is nerve pain from a pinched nerve in the lower spine. Since I have diabetes, I have to be extra careful to distinguish this from diabetic neuropathy, so I immediately got it checked by a specialist. Make sure you get a proper diagnosis to know the exact cause of your nerve pain.
