What is rat bite fever?

Our area recently had a rat infestation, and now my neighbour is worried about 'rat bite fever'. I've never heard of it. What exactly is 'rat bite fever'?

It is a serious bacterial infection caused by bites or scratches from rats. My neighbor ignored a minor scratch and ended up with severe joint complications and hospitalization. Please do not take this lightly and consult a doctor immediately if bitten.

Yo, rat bite fever is an infection you get from rodenty contact or contaminated food. It causes high fever, chills, and muscle aches. If a rat bit someone, they need to go straight to a clinic and get shot of antibiotics.

I was just reading about this! It's a rare bacterial disease called Streptobacillary fever, mostly spread through rodent secretions or bites. It starts within a few days of exposure with fever and joint pain. Sounds like something requiring immediate medical care.

It's exactly what it sounds like—a fever you get if a rat decides to bite or scratch you! Don't try to negotiate with the rat, just run to the nearest doctor and get those medical shots. It is easily treated with standard antibiotics anyway.

When my cousin was bitten by a rodent in our store room, the hospital kept him under observation and gave him specific antibiotic courses for rat bite fever risk. It is standard medical protocol, so please visit an emergency clinic immediately.
