What is mohs surgery for skin cancer?

My friend's mother recently had some growth removed from her face and they called it 'Mohs surgery for skin cancer'. It sounded quite complicated. I'm curious to know what this type of surgery involves and how it's different from other skin cancer treatments. Is it very effective?

Mohs surgery? Is that like super precise surgery for skin cancer? I remember seeing a documentary on it once, where they check under a microscope right there in the operating room. Sounds intense but also super effective for getting all the cancer out.

It's a highly precise surgical technique for removing skin cancer. They check tissue layers during the procedure.

Mohs surgery sounds very advanced and reassuring because they check on the spot. But is it very painful afterwards? Does it leave a big scar? I'd be quite anxious about the recovery and how it would look, honestly. Has anyone here gone through it?

Mohs surgery is a very specialized and effective procedure for certain skin cancers. The best way to understand it is to have your dermatologist explain it clearly. At a good hospital, they'll show you diagrams and discuss success rates and recovery. Don't hesitate to ask all your questions.

My neighbour's child had a skin cancer scare, and the doctor explained Mohs surgery to them. It's very precise, they keep checking tiny bits under the microscope till all cancer is gone. It gives good results, very caring approach so less healthy skin is removed. It sounded like a very comforting option for such a worrying situation.

For something as serious as skin cancer, and a specialized procedure like Mohs surgery, you need proper medical guidance. Just like with thyroid issues, regular monitoring and expert follow-up are critical. Ensure your doctor explains the entire procedure, what to expect post-op, and any necessary long-term care or check-ups. Don't hesitate to seek a second opinion too.

Mohs micrographic surgery is a technique for removing skin cancer, especially effective for basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas, particularly on visible areas like the face. The surgeon removes thin layers of cancerous tissue one by one and examines each layer under a microscope until no cancer cells remain. This minimizes the removal of healthy tissue and maximizes the chance of complete removal. It generally has a high cure rate.
