What is metastatic cancer?

A family member was told their cancer is now 'metastatic.' It sounds serious, but I'm not sure what it implies about the disease spreading. Can someone clarify what metastatic cancer means?

Yaar, metastatic cancer is actually when cancer cells break away from the main spot and travel through the blood to form new tumors in other organs. It is basically stage 4 cancer, which is quite serious.

It means the cancer has spread to other organs, also classified as stage 4. If dealing with this, immediately coordinate with a multi-specialty hospital oncologist to map out a clear chemotherapy or targeted drug treatment plan.
