What is latent tb disease?

My sister was diagnosed with 'latent TB disease' after a routine check-up. We are trying to understand what this means for her health. Is latent TB disease serious, and does it always turn into active TB?

Latent TB is actually not an active disease; it means the TB bacteria is sleeping inside your body without making you sick. While elders in my family suggest eating immune-boosting foods like ginger and turmeric, my doctor emphasized that you still need preventive medication to stop it from turning active later. Please consult a specialist.

It basically means you have the TB germs in your body, but they are taking a long, quiet nap just like I want to. You aren't sick and can't spread it to anyone. Just let a doctor evaluate you so you don't stay up late overthinking this like me!

From what I've researched, latent TB is when you carry the bacteria but have zero symptoms because your immune system has walled it off. It is super common in India, and most people don't even know they have it until they get tested for work or visas!

I agree, latent TB means the bacteria is present but inactive. A standard course of preventive medication is highly effective in stopping it from turning into active TB.

Latent TB is a non-contagious state where the bacteria remains inactive. Since it can reactivate when your immunity goes down due to stress or age, getting a preventive course of treatment from a pulmonologist is the most logical step. Don't ignore it just because you feel fine.

Don't fall for online claims that eating certain foods or herbs can eliminate latent TB from your body. Only proper prescription antibiotics can target the sleeping bacteria. Get a proper diagnosis from a chest specialist and complete their prescribed course.

It means the TB bacteria is inactive in your body. You have no symptoms and are not contagious, but you still need a doctor's evaluation.

Even though latent TB is sleeping and not infectious, it is highly unpredictable and can wake up if your immune system gets weak. For your own safety and peace of mind, please get a proper clinical checkup and follow the doctor's preventive treatment plan strictly.
