What is latent tb diagnosis?

My doctor is recommending some tests for 'latent TB diagnosis' because I was exposed to someone with TB. What exactly is involved in a latent TB diagnosis? What tests do they typically do?

Latent TB is usually diagnosed through a skin test called Mantoux or a blood test called IGRA (like QuantiFERON). I always prefer to get proper clinical tests done rather than guessing symptoms. Please talk to a doctor to guide you on which test is best for your situation.

I had to get this done for my visa. They did a skin test where they inject a tiny bit of fluid in your arm and you have to go back after 2 days to check for a bump. They also did a chest X-ray to make sure it's not active TB. It's super simple, nothing to worry about.

Don't stress about the diagnosis, it is just a routine check. Since latent TB has no symptoms, doctors use a simple skin test or a blood test to see if your body has met the TB bacteria before. Once they confirm it, they might do an X-ray just to be 100% safe. We will get this sorted out easily, don't worry.

The diagnosis of latent tuberculosis infection relies on detecting an immune response to TB proteins using either a TST (Mantoux) or an IGRA blood test. A clinical evaluation and chest radiograph are then essential to rule out active tuberculosis before starting any preventive treatment. Only a qualified physician can interpret these results correctly.

If you need a quick and accurate diagnosis, go for the IGRA blood test rather than the skin test, because the skin test requires you to visit the lab twice. A chest X-ray is also standard to rule out active infection. Book an appointment online to save time.
