What is lada diabetes?

My doctor recently mentioned a type of diabetes called 'LADA' when discussing my family history. I have heard of Type 1 and Type 2, but not this one. What is LADA diabetes, and how is it different?

Yes, it is indeed a form of autoimmune diabetes that develops slowly in adults. Getting a proper antibody test is highly recommended to distinguish it from regular Type 2.

LADA stands for Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults, often called Type 1.5 diabetes. It is a slow-progressing form of autoimmune diabetes that can be mistaken for Type 2 initially. It's best to consult an endocrinologist for a GAD antibody test to get an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan.

My cousin was diagnosed with LADA at Kokilaben Hospital after her normal diabetes medicines stopped working. It is a slow-acting autoimmune diabetes that eventually requires insulin. Please ask your diabetologist clearly to run the GAD65 antibody test if you suspect this.

LADA ek tarah ka sugar hi hai jo thodi badi umar mein dheere dheere shuru hota hai. Isme doctor babu ki salah lena bahut zaroori hai kyunki isme aage chal kar insulin ki zaroorat pad sakti hai. Aap bilkul chinta mat kijiye aur acche hospital dikhaiye.

I was misdiagnosed as Type 2 for three years before we found out it was actually LADA. Once we realized my body was slowly stopping insulin production, we adjusted the treatment and my health improved drastically. I can't give medical advice, but finding the right specialist made all the difference for me.
