What is ketamine used for in mental health?

I was watching a documentary about mental health treatments, and they mentioned ketamine being used for some conditions. I thought ketamine was something else. How is it being used in mental health, and for what conditions?

Hey, don't stress too much about the scary name! Actually, in mental health, ketamine is being used in very controlled clinical setups for severe depression and anxiety when other medicines don't work. It is done under strict doctor supervision, so it's totally safe if recommended.

Just like how we have to be extremely disciplined with diabetes and insulin, ketamine therapy is not a random pill you take. It is a highly regulated medical treatment used under anesthesia protocols for treatment-resistant depression. Always consult a proper psychiatrist.

I was reading about this recently because a friend was struggling with severe PTSD. It is basically used as a rapid-acting therapy for major depression, especially when someone needs quick relief. It is given as an IV infusion or nasal spray in specialized clinics.

We actually discussed this in our psychology class last semester. It's basically a therapy option for people with really bad depression who didn't get better with normal antidepressants. It is super controlled though, only doctors can administer it.

I always believe in meditation, clean air, and home remedies for mental peace, but clinical depression is a different ball game. Ketamine is a strong medical drug used for severe psychiatric issues when nothing else helps. If things are tough, definitely consult a psychiatrist.

Yes, the stuff that started as an anesthetic is now helping doctors fight depression! It's not like you can just go buy it at the local chemist for a bad mood, though. It is strictly for severe cases under a doc's watch, so no DIY experiments here!
