What is gfr in kidney disease?

My father was recently diagnosed with some kidney issues and the doctor keeps talking about his GFR levels. Can someone explain what GFR stands for and how it relates to kidney disease? I'm trying to understand his reports better.

GFR stands for Glomerular Filtration Rate. In simple terms, it tells you how well your kidneys are filtering waste from your blood. If you have kidney disease, a lower GFR means your kidneys aren't working as efficiently as they should. Doctors use this number to stage kidney disease and monitor its progression, so it's a very important marker.

GFR is the Glomerular Filtration Rate, which basically measures kidney function. When I first learned about it for a family member, it made me so anxious. Does anyone else feel that way when they see these medical terms? It just feels like such a critical number. A lower number means kidneys are struggling.

GFR, haan! One more number to track now. It means Glomerular Filtration Rate. Simply put, it tells you how good your kidneys are at cleaning your blood. If it's low, means your kidneys are getting lazy, like me on a Monday morning. Doc will tell you what to do, just monitor it.

GFR, or Glomerular Filtration Rate, is a key indicator of kidney function. In kidney disease, GFR measures the volume of blood filtered by the kidneys per minute. A declining GFR signals worsening kidney function, crucial for diagnosis and treatment planning. Timely monitoring and adherence to nephrologist's advice are essential for managing the condition effectively.
