What is desiccated thyroid extract?

My doctor has suggested some options for my thyroid condition, and one of them was 'desiccated thyroid extract'. I'm a bit confused about what it is and how it's different. Could someone explain what desiccated thyroid extract is?

Okay so, desiccated thyroid extract (DTE) is a type of thyroid medication that comes from actual animal glands (usually pigs!). It's natural and has both T3 and T4 hormones! Some people feel really good on it. But always chat with your doc first! 😊💊

Yaar, so desiccated thyroid extract is actually just a medicine for thyroid problems, but it's made from animal thyroids, like pigs. It's different from the common synthetic one. My friend's aunt was taking it and felt better. But, you know, har body ka alag hota hai, so doctor se confirm karna best hai.

Honestly, the internet is full of remedies and alternative treatments. Desiccated thyroid extract is animal-derived thyroid hormones. My advice? Don't just pick something you read online. For serious conditions like thyroid, always, ALWAYS verify everything with a qualified doctor. Self-medication can be dangerous.

Dekho bhai, desiccated thyroid extract is basically a medicine for your thyroid, but it comes from animal thyroids, not made in a lab. It has all the hormones your body needs. Some people prefer it over synthetic ones. But only a doctor can tell you if it's right for you. Don't go taking it just like that.

My endocrinologist explained that desiccated thyroid extract (DTE) is a compounded medication sourced from porcine (pig) thyroid glands. Unlike synthetic levothyroxine (T4), DTE contains a full spectrum of thyroid hormones, including T4, T3, T2, T1, and calcitonin. It's an older form of treatment, and while some patients report better symptom resolution due to the T3 component, consistency in potency can be a concern. It's vital to have a doctor experienced in prescribing and monitoring DTE.
