What is core sleep vs deep sleep?

I'm confused about the different types of sleep. What is the difference between 'core sleep' and 'deep sleep'? Are they the same thing or distinct stages?

Core sleep is often used to mean the most vital parts of your sleep cycle, including deep sleep. Deep sleep is a specific stage within NREM sleep.

From what I understand, deep sleep is one of the important stages of NREM sleep, very restorative. Core sleep is a broader term, usually covering deep sleep and REM sleep, basically the essential sleep your body needs to function well. For me, ensuring a dark, quiet room helps me get both.

This confused me too! Deep sleep is a specific stage where your body repairs itself, very important. Core sleep is more of an umbrella term some people use for the essential, most restorative sleep, which includes both deep sleep and REM sleep. I've found a consistent bedtime routine helps me hit those crucial stages.

Deep sleep is a specific, very restorative stage of non-REM sleep. 'Core sleep' is often used more generally to refer to the most crucial, restorative parts of your sleep cycle, which includes deep sleep and REM sleep. As someone with thyroid issues, getting enough of both is vital, so if you're concerned, do discuss your sleep patterns with your doctor and get regular check-ups.

Oh, so deep sleep is like that super satisfying dessert after a long meal, totally necessary for your body! Core sleep is more like the whole main course, covering the really important bits including that dessert, plus some other good stuff. Both are important for feeling energized, just like good food!
