What is considered severe pain?

I've been having really bad headaches that make it hard to focus or even move. How is 'severe pain' defined medically? I want to explain it properly to my doctor.

As someone managing high blood pressure, I know that severe pain can spike your BP instantly. If the pain is an 8 to 10 on a scale of 10 and stops you from doing basic daily tasks, it is severe. Please get your vitals and health checked by a professional.

Haan yaar, severe pain matlab standard pain nahi hota na. It’s when you can't even sit, stand, or sleep because of it. If it is that bad, please don't wait at home and go see a doctor immediately.

I think pain is considered severe when no amount of resting or changing positions helps you feel better. If it's keeping you awake at night and feels unbearable, please take it seriously and consult a doctor right away.

Look, if the pain is making you cry or double over, it is severe. Don't act like a hero trying to tolerate it. Go straight to a doctor and get it checked out properly.

For me, severe pain is when I can't even think about eating my favorite biryani! On a serious note, if the pain is so intense that you are sweating, feeling nauseous, or can't distract yourself at all, it's considered severe.

In practical terms, severe pain is anything that completely disrupts your ability to function or work. If you cannot focus, speak, or move comfortably, that is your cue to drop everything and visit an emergency room.
