What is considered high liver enzymes?

I recently had a check-up, and the doctor said my liver enzymes were a bit high. What exactly is considered high liver enzymes? I need to understand what it means for my health.

Please don't start drinking raw juices or buying random detox powders online to fix this. Generally, ALT and AST levels above 40-50 U/L are high, but only a qualified doctor can tell you why they are elevated. Go get a proper consultation and a liver ultrasound done.

My SGPT came back as 78 yesterday and I am feeling so anxious. The lab report has marked it in red bold letters. Has anyone else had similar levels and managed to bring them down? Does it cause any pain?

Levels crossing 45-50 U/L are usually flagged as high. While a slight elevation is common with a sedentary lifestyle or certain medications, it is best to consult your physician. They will evaluate your overall health instead of just looking at one number.

Usually, anything above 40 is high. Along with your doctor's advice, try drinking warm water with turmeric in the morning and cut down on deep-fried foods. These traditional ways really help the liver recover slowly without putting extra stress on your body.

My liver enzymes were in the 300s, which I ignored thinking it was just gas, and it ended up being severe hepatitis. Please do not ignore readings that are significantly above the normal limit of 40 U/L. See a specialist immediately.

I had high SGPT of 95 last year. My doctor told me it was Grade 1 fatty liver. I stopped alcohol completely, ate simple home-cooked food with less oil, and started walking 5 km daily. My levels came back to 32 within three months, so it is very manageable.
