What is central sleep apnea?

My husband snores very badly and sometimes stops breathing for a few seconds in his sleep. The doctor mentioned 'sleep apnea' and said there are different types. What is 'central sleep apnea'?

I understand how scary sleep issues can be. Unlike normal sleep apnea, this is when the brain temporarily stops sending signals to your breathing muscles, so please see a sleep specialist for proper tests.

Central sleep apnea involves the nervous system rather than a blocked airway. Do not ignore chronic fatigue or waking up gasping, get a proper sleep study done at a clinic.

It is a medical condition where your breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep because of brain signals. Please visit a doctor to get peaceful sleep again safely.

My brother was diagnosed with central sleep apnea after his neurological checkup. Using a CPAP machine and following his doctor's prescription completely resolved his breathing pauses during the night.

I know how absolutely terrifying it is to wake up feeling like you can't breathe. Central sleep apnea is a real medical issue, but getting a proper sleep study done will help you get the right treatment.
