What is carrageenan cancer?

I'm trying to eat healthier and check ingredients on packaged foods. I've noticed 'carrageenan' in some items and heard rumors about it causing health issues, even cancer. Is there any truth to this? What is carrageenan and its link to cancer?

I was looking this up because I saw carrageenan on my almond milk label. Apparently, there are fears that it causes inflammation or cancer, but the science seems very mixed and mostly based on animal studies.

Back in our days, we ate simple home-cooked food and didn't worry about these additives. Don't stress too much about these internet scares, but sticking to fresh, unprocessed ingredients is always the best policy.

Carrageenan is a seaweed extract used to thicken vegetarian and vegan foods like soy milk. While food-grade carrageenan is approved, some people prefer avoiding it to prevent bloating, so read labels carefully if you have a sensitive stomach.

There is a big debate, but food-grade carrageenan is generally recognized as safe by authorities in moderate amounts. If you are worried, you can easily find products that are labeled carrageenan-free to have peace of mind.

Instead of worrying about specific additives like carrageenan, I focus on keeping my overall BP and diet in check with regular doctor visits. A balanced diet of whole foods is much safer than overthinking packaged food labels.

I completely understand getting terrified after reading the word cancer next to a food ingredient. Most of these scares are exaggerated online, but consult a nutritionist if you want to clean up your diet safely.

Actually, some people get super scared of this additive, yaar. It is just a thickener, but if it makes you anxious, just buy fresh milk and avoid processed packaged stuff altogether.
