What is buspirone used for in mental health?

My sister's doctor prescribed something called buspirone for her anxiety. We're trying to do some research before she starts taking it. Can anyone tell me what buspirone is primarily used for in mental health?

Buspirone is a medication primarily prescribed to manage generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). Unlike benzos, it is non-habit forming and doesn't cause severe sedation. It takes about 2 to 4 weeks of regular use to start showing proper results, so patience is key.

Buspirone is an anti-anxiety drug. If you are planning your mental healthcare budget, the generic version is quite affordable in India compared to other psychiatric medicines. Just ensure you budget for the regular doctor consults needed for refills.

My doctor put me on buspirone last year when my work anxiety got totally out of hand. It basically helps lower your daily anxiety and physical tension. For me, it worked well without making me feel like a complete zombie during the day.

It is a medicine used to treat long-term anxiety issues. My son was prescribed this by his doctor during a very stressful academic phase. We had to make sure he took it consistently every day, as it doesn't work instantly like an emergency pill.

It is used for managing chronic anxiety. However, I had some quite uncomfortable dizzy spells and nausea when I started it, and had to get my doctor to adjust the dose. Please consult a qualified psychiatrist instead of self-medicating.
