What is autoimmune hepatitis?

My doctor suspects I might have an autoimmune condition and ordered some tests. He briefly mentioned 'autoimmune hepatitis'. What is autoimmune hepatitis and what causes it?

Don't let the big words scare you. It is a condition where your immune system mistakenly attacks your liver, but with proper medical care, it is highly manageable. Just stick to your doctor's advice and take it one day at a time.

Since I manage PCOS, I know how frustrating immune-related health issues can be. Autoimmune hepatitis is chronic and requires very careful medical management, so please don't try self-treating this and rely on a specialist.

I have seen a few close friends deal with this. It basically causes liver inflammation when your body's defense system misbehaves. The key is regular liver function tests to keep the inflammation under control.

Let's be clear: this is not a regular infection that will go away with home remedies. It is an autoimmune disorder of the liver. Go see a qualified hepatologist immediately and get the proper tests done.

It is a liver issue where your immune system acts up. Having this means you really have to restrict spicy street food and alcohol to give your liver an easy time, which is tough but very necessary!

My body is already tired of managing cholesterol, and now we have to worry about the immune system fighting the liver too! Jokes aside, it's a real medical issue that requires proper specialists, so don't take it lightly.

My cousin was diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis a couple of years ago. He was prescribed specific immunosuppressants by his doctor and has to go for regular checkups, but he is living a completely normal life now.
