What is active sleep in babies?
My newborn baby moves a lot in her sleep, sometimes even making noises. My mother-in-law said it's 'active sleep'. Can someone explain what 'active sleep in babies' is and if it's normal? I worry if she's comfortable.

Oh, I totally get why you'd ask this! When babies are in active sleep, they might move their limbs, make sucking noises, or even smile. It's like their brain is really busy growing and developing. It's completely normal and so cute to watch sometimes.
Active sleep in babies? Ha! For me, any sleep a baby gets is a miracle, whether it's active or not! But yes, babies twitch and make noises in their sleep, which is this active sleep. My son used to make so many faces, thought he was dreaming of milk!
When my baby was small, I used to worry about everything, especially sleep. Active sleep is common in newborns, they often twitch or grunt. But if you have any concerns about their breathing or if it seems like they are struggling too much, please check with your pediatrician. Better safe than sorry.
I was just reading about this! Active sleep in babies is basically when they're in REM sleep. They move around a lot, make sounds, and their eyes flutter. It's a really important stage for their brain development. Sounds pretty fascinating, actually.

It's like their version of REM sleep, where their little brains are processing so much! Important for their development. For us, a good brisk walk helps get into deeper sleep, but for babies, it's just natural. Good to know they're growing even when resting.
