What is a dmsa scan kidney?

My doctor has recommended a 'DMSA scan kidney' for me to check my kidney function. I'm a bit nervous. Can someone explain what this scan is and what it's for?

From what I understand, it is a specialized imaging test used to look closely at the size, shape, and function of your kidneys. I have PCOS so I am always cautious about medical tests, so it is best to ask your doctor why they recommended it.

I was just reading about this online! It seems they inject a tiny amount of a radioactive tracer to check for any scarring or damage in the kidneys. It sounds way more intense than it actually is, just a standard diagnostic scan.

It is basically a fancy photo session for your kidneys to see if they are doing their job properly. Don't worry, you won't glow in the dark after the scan, though that would be a cool party trick!

Hey, don't worry at all. A DMSA scan is just a very common and safe way for doctors to check how well your kidneys are working. It is a painless procedure, so take a deep breath and just follow the clinic's instructions.

It is a kidney scan that checks for scars or infection damage. Make sure to check prices at a few different diagnostic centers because the cost of nuclear scans can vary a lot. Planning ahead will save you some money.

It is a super helpful scan that shows the doctor exactly how your kidneys are functioning! It takes a couple of hours but it is very simple. Wishing you a quick and smooth test! 👍

I totally get it, getting prescribed any kind of scan can make you feel super anxious. It is just a routine test to check for kidney infections or scars. You will be absolutely fine, don't worry too much.
