What is a cold stroke?

My elderly father gets very unwell if he stays in cold temperatures for long, and my dadi used to call it a 'cold stroke'. Is that a real medical condition, and what causes it?

I agree with others, 'cold stroke' isn't a standard medical term, but people sometimes use it to describe strokes happening in cold weather due to blood vessel constriction. Always monitor blood pressure closely during winters as a precaution.

Haan, actually medically aisa koi alag 'cold stroke' nahi hota, par thand ke mausam mein blood pressure badhne se stroke ka risk badh jata hai, toh log bol dete hain. Winters mein apni health ka khyal rakhna chahiye aur warm kapde pehanna na bhoolein.

It is not a formal medical diagnosis, but usually refers to the increased risk of cardiovascular events during extremely cold weather. Stay warm, monitor your health, and don't worry too much.

There is no official medical term called a cold stroke. It usually refers to strokes triggered by winter weather constricting blood vessels.

My elders always told me to protect the ears and chest in cold weather, but when I asked my doctor, he said cold weather can constrict arteries and increase stroke risk. It is always wise to take both traditional advice and proper medical check-ups seriously during winters.

Oh god, I get so anxious reading about different types of strokes, I didn't even know 'cold stroke' was a term! It seems it's just about winter risks rather than a different disease, which is slightly relieving. Please take care of your elders in the cold weather so we don't have to worry.

In winters we all love eating heavy, oily foods, but this combined with extreme cold can actually put a lot of pressure on the heart and blood vessels. That's probably why people talk about winter or 'cold' strokes. Keep enjoying your hot parathas but don't forget to keep your physical health in check too!
