What includes liver function test?

My mother-in-law had a liver function test recently and I was curious about what exactly it checks. What all parameters are usually included in a standard liver function test? Just want to understand it better for her.

Usually, an LFT includes SGOT, SGPT, bilirubin, and alkaline phosphatase. Since I have thyroid, I get these tested regularly along with my lipid profile. It's always best to have a doctor read the results and suggest any treatment.

Yes, it covers bilirubin, albumin, and some liver enzymes. Check with local labs like Lal Path or Metropolis, they often have package deals that combine LFT with CBC and kidney tests. It is much cheaper than doing them separately.

An LFT measures various proteins and liver enzymes to check how well your liver is filtering waste. However, trying to interpret the numbers yourself online can cause unnecessary panic. A physician is the best person to diagnose what any high or low values actually mean.

I was told to get this done but I am a bit confused. Does this test require fasting in the morning, or can we eat something before going to the lab? Sorry if this is a silly question, I've never done this before.

My SGPT and SGOT came out slightly elevated in the test and I am panicking so much. Does this mean my liver is failing? Has anyone else had borderline high reports that turned out to be completely fine later?
