What helps dissolve kidney stones?

My elder sister has been suffering from kidney stones. She's in a lot of pain. Are there any general suggestions or remedies that are known to help dissolve kidney stones over time? We are already consulting a doctor, but looking for complementary advice.

While there are some general recommendations like increased fluid intake (especially water and citrus juices like lemon), the ability to 'dissolve' kidney stones largely depends on their type. Uric acid stones can sometimes be dissolved with medication to alter urine pH, but calcium oxalate stones, which are very common, typically cannot be dissolved this way. It is absolutely crucial to consult a urologist for diagnosis and a tailored treatment plan.

I had a small kidney stone once, and my doctor told me that drinking lots of water is the number one thing to help pass it. He also recommended lemon water daily as the citrate can prevent stones from forming and growing. But for actual dissolution, it really depends on the stone type, so a proper medical diagnosis is essential. Don't experiment.

The most practical thing you can do to help with kidney stones is to increase your fluid intake significantly – plain water, fresh lemon water. This can help flush out small stones and prevent new ones. However, for stones that need to be dissolved, specific medications are often prescribed depending on the stone type, so a visit to the doctor is non-negotiable.

Kidney stones, ugh, sounds like a party I'd rather not attend! 😂 I heard lots of water is the bouncer that tries to get them out. But for dissolving, I think you need a doctor's special powers, not just home remedies. Mine just said drink water until you float!
