What happens if u stop taking thyroid medicine?

My wife has been taking thyroid medicine for years now. She feels fine these days and is wondering if she can just stop taking it, since her reports are looking okay. What are the actual consequences if someone just suddenly stops their thyroid medication?

Please don't stop your thyroid tablets without asking your doctor first. I have had thyroid issues for 15 years, and even if you feel completely fine right now, your body's hormone levels will slowly drop and you will feel extremely tired. It takes a few weeks to show, so do not take this risk.

Yaar, I forgot mine for just four days last month and I was literally sleeping like a zombie the whole day. My brain felt completely foggy and I couldn't even focus on my work. Trust me, skipping that tiny pill is absolutely not worth the crazy fatigue.

Oh god, if I miss my thyroid dose even for a bit, my metabolism goes for a toss and then I have to think twice before touching my favorite mutton biryani. To keep eating peacefully, I make sure to take that little pill every single morning without fail!

Beta, these modern medicines should not be stopped suddenly on your own. You can drink coriander seed water in the morning, which is good for general throat health, but that is only a small support. The main treatment prescribed by your doctor must continue regularly.

Don't do this! Skipping it will just drain all your energy and make you feel super low. Keep a daily alarm on your phone so you never forget, and stay happy and healthy!

Stopping thyroid medication abruptly can disrupt your metabolic rate entirely, leading to sudden weight fluctuations and mood swings. It is a hormone replacement therapy, so your body relies on it daily. Please consult your endocrinologist and get a blood test done before making any changes.

My daughter has thyroid issues and we never skip her morning dose because we saw how cranky and weak she gets if she misses it. It is just one small pill first thing in the morning, so try to make it a strict habit. Take care of yourself like you would take care of a child.

I completely understand the frustration of taking a pill every single day, it used to make me so anxious and annoyed. But honestly, stopping it will only make your body more stressed and tired. Just keep taking it and discuss your concerns openly with your doctor during your next checkup.

Thyroid balance is very delicate. Along with your regular medical tablets, practicing Ujjayi Pranayama and Sarvangasana daily can help support your thyroid gland gently. But please remember, yoga is a supporter, not a replacement for your doctor's prescription.

I made the huge mistake of stopping my thyroid medicine last year because I thought I was cured. Within two months, my hair started falling out in clumps and my periods got completely messed up. I had to run to the doctor and start from scratch, so please get a proper TSH test done and talk to your doctor.
