What happens if u don't take thyroid medicine?

My sister was diagnosed with thyroid issues recently and is supposed to take medicine daily. She's sometimes forgetful. I'm worried, what happens if you don't take thyroid medicine regularly as prescribed? Can it cause serious problems?

My endocrinologist explained that thyroxine is essential for regulating our metabolism, heart rate, and body temperature. If you stop the medication, your TSH levels will spike, leading to severe fatigue, joint pain, and sudden weight gain. Please do not skip your doses.

Your hormone levels will fluctuate wildly and you will feel extremely tired. It is very important to take it daily as prescribed.

If you stop it, your metabolism will go on a permanent vacation and you will feel like a sloth on a lazy Sunday. It is just one tiny pill first thing in the morning, so take it and keep your energy levels alive!

Stopping thyroid medication without your doctor's knowledge can lead to cardiovascular complications over time. Please get a fresh thyroid profile test done and let your doctor adjust the dose instead of self-managing.

I literally freak out if I miss my dose even by an hour, fearing my whole system will crash! But actually, skipping once in a while is okay, though stopping completely is really risky. Please stay safe and stick to your schedule.

The daily pills are actually very cheap, but if you stop them, the future hospital bills and specialist consults will cost you a fortune. It is much more budget-friendly to spend 300 rupees on a quarterly TSH test and keep taking your regular dose.

I skipped my thyroid pills for a month thinking I was cured, and ended up with massive hair loss and swelling. Now, I keep my pill bottle right on my alarm clock so I never miss it first thing in the morning. Consistency is key here.
