What gives u kidney stones?

My friend just got kidney stones, and he's quite young. It made me wonder, what actually causes people to get kidney stones? Is it something in our diet or lifestyle?

Eating too much salt and not drinking enough water are major reasons. For someone like me with high BP, keeping a check on diet and getting routine kidney function tests is very important to avoid such issues.

I neglected my mild back pain which turned out to be a large kidney stone blocking my ureter, leading to a severe kidney infection. A diet high in oxalates and low water intake can cause them, but please consult a doctor for proper diagnosis.

Usually, not drinking enough water is the main culprit because minerals concentrate and form crystals. Also, consuming too much sodium or non-prescription calcium supplements can cause them, so keep your hydration levels high.

Having high sugar levels and insulin resistance can actually increase calcium excretion in urine, leading to stones. Be very careful with high-fructose corn syrup in packaged foods and always discuss your diet with your doctor.

In my experience, sitting too much and drinking tea instead of water all day is a major cause. Just keep a water bottle near you, drink at regular intervals, and keep your body moving to prevent these problems.

Dehydration combined with a high-protein, high-sodium diet is the classic recipe for kidney stones. If you are having high-intensity workouts and taking protein supplements, make sure your water intake matches that.

I constantly worry about getting kidney stones because I read that even minor dehydration can trigger them. It is so scary! Please make sure to drink plenty of fluids and cut down on processed foods just to be safe.

It is simple—too much salt, too much red meat, and very little water leads to stones. The easiest solution is to carry a 1-liter bottle everywhere and make sure you finish at least three of those every day.

At this age, if I don't drink water for two hours, my body starts complaining. Eating too many salty snacks while watching TV and skipping water is a direct ticket to kidney stones, so keep yourself hydrated.

I just passed a kidney stone last month and it was painful. The doctor told me my habit of skipping water and eating too many spinach and chocolate snacks, which are high in oxalates, was the main cause.

Don't listen to people online telling you to drink random juices to prevent stones. Different stones are made of different minerals, so only a proper doctor and a urine test can tell you what is causing yours.

Don't worry too much, kidney stones are very common and highly preventable. Just make sure you are drinking at least 2 to 3 liters of water daily and reducing your extra salt intake to keep your kidneys healthy.
