What does sleep paralysis look like?

My younger sister experienced something scary where she woke up but couldn't move, and she said she saw things. We think it was sleep paralysis. What does sleep paralysis 'look like' from the outside, or what are the common visual experiences people report?

To an observer, it just looks like you are sleeping completely still and peaceful, but on the inside, you are in a state of absolute terror, trying to scream or move. I struggled with this emotional horror for years, and it is incredibly isolating. Your feelings of fear are completely valid.

To anyone watching, you just seem to be lying down in deep sleep, with no outward sign of the struggle you are feeling. Don't worry, your breathing and heart are functioning completely fine during this time. We will get this checked by a doctor to help you sleep peacefully.

To an outsider, you look completely calm and motionless. When I had severe thyroid fluctuations, my sleep quality was terrible and I experienced this often. I highly suggest getting your thyroid panel checked and consulting your doctor for a proper follow-up.

It literally looks like absolutely nothing to anyone else in the room; you just look like you are fast asleep. The entire experience of being frozen and hallucinating is entirely internal. If it is affecting your productivity, just go see a sleep specialist.

To someone else, you look like you are quietly sleeping, though you might make faint whimpering sounds. Trying natural remedies like a warm cup of chamomile tea or keeping a consistent sleep schedule can help, but please consult a doctor if it happens often.
