What does sciatic nerve pain feel like?

I've been experiencing a shooting pain down my leg from my lower back for the past few weeks, especially when I sit for too long. My physio mentioned it could be sciatic nerve pain. What does sciatic nerve pain typically feel like?

Beta, in my experience, sciatica feels like a sharp, shooting current that starts in your lower back and goes all the way down one leg to your foot. It can make walking very difficult at first. But don't worry, with gentle hot water therapy, proper rest, and doctor's advice, it gets much better over time.

Sciatica feels like a burning, electric shock in your buttock and leg, making it painful to sit for too long. Since nerve health is very important for those of us managing diabetes, I always suggest keeping your blood sugar levels under strict control alongside seeing a specialist. A healthy diet really supports nerve recovery.

It feels like a really annoying, sharp pulling sensation that shoots down the back of your thigh when you stand up or stretch. It is almost like a wire is being pulled too tight inside your leg. Doing some gentle hamstring stretches after consulting a physiotherapist really helped me manage it.

It is a painful radiating sensation that runs down the back of one leg, which our elders often called a nerve pull. Gently applying warm sesame oil mixed with a little camphor can bring some warmth and relief to the lower back. However, please consult a medical expert if the pain is severe or causes numbness.

Having dealt with this for two years, I can tell you it is an intense, burning ache that makes standing in one place a nightmare. My best practical tip is to avoid bending forward directly and start sleeping with a pillow between your knees. Also, get a proper MRI done to see if there is a slipped disc.

My orthopedist explained that sciatica is a compression of the nerve root, which feels like a sharp, shooting pain, tingling, or even numbness in the leg. The doctor advised me to avoid sitting on soft sofas and to focus on core-strengthening exercises once the acute pain subsided. It is highly recommended to get a professional diagnosis.
