What does pre skin cancer look like?

My dermatologist pointed out a small spot on my arm during a check-up and said we need to keep an eye on it, mentioning 'pre-skin cancer'. I'm a bit worried and want to know more. What does pre-skin cancer actually look like?

Pre-skin cancer, often called actinic keratosis, usually looks like rough, scaly, or dry patches on skin areas exposed to the sun. They can be pink, red, or brown and might feel itchy or tender. It is highly recommended to get any changing spot evaluated by a qualified dermatologist.

It usually looks like a rough, sandpapery patch or a small crusty spot that just doesn't seem to go away. But please don't stress too much! Just book a quick consult with a skin doctor to get it checked, it's usually nothing major.

I was just reading about this yesterday and found out they look like small, rough, raised bumps that can feel like sandpaper. They are common on the face, ears, or arms. It's really interesting how such a tiny spot can be a warning sign.

I have this small, crusty reddish spot on my forearm that sometimes gets itchy, and I'm really worried if it's pre-cancer. Has anyone else noticed something similar that turned out to be totally harmless? I'm thinking of seeing a dermatologist this week.

I have read that they look like scaly, reddish patches that might sting a bit when exposed to the sun. Since I have to be extremely careful with skin infections due to my diabetes, I never ignore any unusual dry spot and show it to my physician immediately.

I completely understand how terrifying it is to find a weird spot and immediately think the worst. Usually, these pre-cancer spots look like dry, scaly patches that don't heal, but it could also just be eczema or dry skin. Take a deep breath and let a dermatologist take a look.
