What does lymphedema pain feel like?

My leg has been swollen for a while now, and sometimes it gets really heavy and achy. The doctor mentioned lymphedema, but I'm trying to understand the symptoms better. Can anyone describe what lymphedema pain feels like?

Lymphedema usually feels like a very heavy, tight, and bursting sensation in the affected arm or leg. It can make the limb feel extremely stiff and difficult to move comfortably. Please take care, rest the limb elevated on pillows, and seek gentle medical guidance.

It feels like a deep, heavy tightness in the limb, and the skin can feel very hard and warm to the touch. Just like managing blood pressure, keeping active with safe, low-impact movements and keeping the limb elevated is key. Make sure to visit your doctor regularly to check the lymphatic flow and skin health.

It basically feels like your arm or leg has decided to impersonate an overinflated balloon! It's a tight, heavy ache that makes you feel like you are carrying extra baggage around. Just keep your spirits up, wear your compression sleeves, and let the therapists help you deflate it!

Lymphedema is more about extreme heaviness, tightness, and restricted range of motion than a sharp pain. If you are feeling a sudden, severe pain accompanied by redness and heat, that could be a skin infection like cellulitis, which is common in lymphedema. Don't sit on it, go see your doctor immediately.

Does the pain also feel like a constant, dull throbbing that gets much worse by the end of the day? My mother's arm is swelling after her surgery and she says her skin feels so stretched that it might split. I am really worried, are these normal symptoms of lymphedema or is it an infection?

It is a heavy, congested pain where the fluid feels completely stagnant in the limb. I have found that very gentle, specialized lymphatic drainage movements and elevated breathing exercises help ease that tight pressure. However, always consult your therapist before starting any physical exercises.

My grandmother used to suggest applying warm herbal pastes to reduce the heavy swelling in the legs, which gave temporary comfort. But we trusted our physician's advice and got proper compression stockings made, which helped much more. Elevating the leg while resting is also a very useful tip we follow.
