What does lung cancer do to the lungs?

My father recently got diagnosed with lung cancer, and we're trying to understand more about it. What exactly happens inside the lungs when someone has this condition? We want to know how it affects his breathing and everything.

Basically, abnormal cells start growing rapidly and form tumors, which block your airways. This drastically reduces your lung capacity, which you'll notice on your fitness tracker as a drop in SpO2 levels or a high resting heart rate during simple walks.

At my age, climbing two flights of stairs makes me huff and puff anyway, but lung cancer makes it much worse. It damages the healthy lung tissue, leaving very little space for actual oxygen. It basically turns your lungs into a lazy engine that refuses to work.

My uncle had this and it basically destroys the air sacs. He used to get breathless just sitting on the sofa because the fluid was building up around his lungs. It is a really heavy feeling and makes breathing a massive struggle.

I completely panicked last year when my father had a severe cough and chest tightness, thinking his lungs were ruined. Turns out it was just chronic bronchitis. While cancer does damage lung elasticity and block air passage, don't jump to conclusions before getting a clear X-ray.

While steam inhalation and warm ginger water can help with normal congestion, they cannot stop the growth of cancer cells in the lungs. It blocks the bronchial tubes and can cause fluid collection. For severe breathlessness or coughing up blood, you must rush to a big hospital immediately.

Please don't ignore any constant cough or mild breathing trouble. It starts slowly by replacing healthy tissue, and by the time you realize, it spreads and makes breathing extremely painful. I delayed my father's checkup by three months thinking it was seasonal cold, and I still regret it.

Does it also cause a constant heavy feeling on one side of the chest? My dad has been complaining of this tightness and a dry cough that doesn't go away. I'm really worried if this is how the damage starts, has anyone else noticed this in their family members?

Consult a pulmonologist

Just like high BP slowly damages your arteries, lung cancer silently compromises your breathing system by clogging the airways. It is highly essential to get regular health checkups after 50. Don't wait for your lungs to fail before you consult a doctor.

I am not an expert, but from what I have read, the abnormal cells multiply and destroy the surrounding lung tissue, making it very hard to breathe normally. Since health issues can be so complex, it is always safest to consult a pulmonologist rather than guessing based on online info.

Basically, it damages the lung structure and makes it prone to frequent infections like pneumonia. The most practical thing is to avoid self-medicating with cough syrups from the local pharmacy. Go to a government hospital or private clinic and get an X-ray done first; it is not very expensive.

To put it simply, it reduces the area available for blood to exchange oxygen. The tumor can also press against nerves and blood vessels, leading to chest pain and persistent coughing. If you are noticing these symptoms, getting an early chest CT is the best practical step.

Lung capacity completely reduce ho jati hai, haan na. It becomes so hard to take a deep breath because the tumor blocks the airway. Please don't take any persistent cough lightly, doctor se check karva lo standard procedure follow karke.
